A reenactment of a Diplomatic Ministers’ Reception took place on September 24 at Jeonggwanheon Hall of Deoksugung Palace, inviting viewers to witness the first steps of diplomacy of the Korean Empire. The ceremony organized by the Korean Cultural Heritage Foundation presented a historic reenactment of Emperor Gojong’s official reception ceremony for foreign diplomats. Gojong (1852-1919) was the 26th king of the Joseon Dynasty (1392-1910) and the first emperor of the Korean Empire (1897-1910), the last kingdom of Korea, which preceded the 35-year Japanese Occupation. The one-hour ceremony continues until November 6 on Saturdays and Sundays starting at 3 p.m. except on the weekend of October 8 and 9.
