The dance and club music festival Global Gathering Korea 2011 (GGK) will be held on October 8 at Nanji Hangang Park in Sangam-dong, Seoul.
The Global Gathering, known as one of the world’s best music festivals along with the Glastonbury festival, was first held in 2011 in England, as a global dance music festival. It has been held in English, Australia, Russia, Turkey, and Korea attracting an audience of more than 700,000. As many as 150 famous DJs and musicians including Daft Punk, Tiesto, and Underworld have participated in the festival.
In Korea, the festival is known as a large-scale electronic music festival which especially attracts young music lovers. This year, the event will have top global artists such as Groove Armada, Digitalism, and Yolanda Be Cool.
Groove Armada is famous for its previous work for the American TV show Sex and the City while Yolanda Be Cool has attracted a number of Koreans with their song “We No Speak Americano” Which was featured in an episode of the Korean drama City Hunter. Digitalism has appeared at most of the world’s music festivals including the Glastonbury Festival, Coachella Music and Arts Festival, and Summer Sonic Festival.
“We’ve focused on casting global artists who set the world’s music trends,” said an official from one of the organizers, CJ E&M.
“Various events that allow the audience to feel the special atmosphere of an electronic music festival have been prepared.”
Tickets cost 110,000 won and are available at http://www.mnet.com, www.interpark.co.kr, and http://ticket.auction.co.kr. People under the age of 19 are not allowed to enter the festival due to the sale of alcohol during the event.
