Mount Erebus volcano is a very beautiful and one of the largest and highest volcano in Antarctica that has incredible views. Located on Ross Island, which is also home to three other active volcanoes, i.e. volcanoes, mount terror birds, and Mount Terra Nova.
With a peak elevation of 12,448 3,794 meters or feet and is located on Ross Island, which is also home to three active volcanoes, mountain, mount terror birds, and Mount Terra Nova. On top of Mount Erebus ice Tower, there are some that are formed from volcanic steam explosion.
Many of these towers are constantly removing the steam to form the chimney on top of it. As a complement of this ice towers, in the mountain, there is a wide range of blue cave formed also from volcanic activity. Peak average temperature between-20 (summer) and-50 degrees Celsius (winter) and is covered by glaciers. Or since then she has visited only very rarely in the following 100 years.
Mount Erebus is an active volcano with Lava Lake in the crater Summit convecting. It has been continuously active since 1972.
The SUMMIT contains a persistent convecting phonolitic lava Lake, one of five long-lasting lava lakes on Earth. A typical eruption activity consists of Strombolian eruptions from the Lava Lake or one of several subsidiary vents, all lying within the inner crater.
Mount Erebus crater rim peaks ‘ first achieved by Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Party members; Professor Sir Edgeworth David, Douglas Mawson, Dr Alister Mackay, Jameson Adams, Dr. Eric Marshall and Philip Brocklehurst (who did not make the Summit), in 1908. Since his first solo winter ascent is known and the first conducted by the United Kingdom Mountaineer Roger Mear in March 1983, Member of the Robert Swan “in the footsteps of Scott” expedition.
On 19 – 20 January, 1991, Charles j. Blackmer, iron worker for many years at McMurdo and South Pole Stations, achieved a solo ascent at about seventeen hours by snow mobile.
Mount Erebus was discovered on December 27, 1841 by Polar Explorer Sir James Clark Ross who named it and mount terror after his ships, Erebus and terror (which was later used by Sir John Franklin in his expedition of Arctic disaster). Erebus is named after a character in the mythology of Greece it was transporting the souls of the dead over the river Styx in Hades. Erebus is the ancient Greece gods of darkness, the son of chaos.
