Hana Tour said on April 2, overseas travel demand in April 2017 was 276,000, up 15.8% from the same month the previous year.
Southeast Asia shown as the most popular destination and accounted for 37.6% of total travel demand, followed by Japan (37.0%), China (8.8%), Europe (8.4%), South Pacific (5.6%) and the Americas (2.6%).
Travel demand increased YoY in all regions except China. The largest increase was in Southeast Asia (+ 62.2%), which absorbed the demand for travel to China, which decreased due to the THAAD deployment. In the meantime, the South Pacific and Europe grew by 38.6% and 36.8%, respectively, due to mid haul and long haul destination travelers who set off early in the Golden Holiday in late April.
Package tours continued to grow steadily, up 20.4% while sales of individual travel such as local tours and admission tickets also increased by 16.9%.
As of 2 of May, overseas travel demand increased by 33.2% YoY in May and 26.2% YoY in June.
The demand for overseas travel has been steadily increasing this year, and Tokyo, Japan (+ 109.9%) has the highest increase in numbers of travelers compared to the previous year until April.
In the same period, Singapore was up 84.3% and travelers in India, Nepal and Sri Lanka rose 79.7%. The Middle East which has steadily increased its awareness through entertainment programs, etc., increased 73.5% YoY in numbers.
